I have been trying to install SXDE on my HP Pavilion desktop PC. Windows is
currently installed on the system and there is 1GB of RAM and 160GB HDD. I
ran the new hardware compatibility wizard and it gave me all green lights so
the system should be able to support Solaris. I inserted the CD and followed
the steps to install the most recent version of SXDE. It installed fine and
the system restarted into GRUB. Though there was no nice menu of choices
between Windows and Solaris like i think there should have been. Since there
was no menu, i looked online about how to access Windows through GRUB and it
gave me the following command set which i typed in.

1) rootnoverify (hd0,0)
2) chainloader +1
3) makeactive
4) boot

Windows loaded and i shut down the computer. When i restarted, the computer
loaded right to Windows and skipped GRUB. I have gathered that this is because
i made Windows the active partition so I contacted tech-leads and someone has
helped me fix the menu.1st file so the computer loads into GRUB again. The
problem is that when i try to load Solaris I am getting the following error

error 18:Selected Cylinder exceeds maximum supported by BIOS

I just installed a new hard drive so I am assuming the BIOS cannot see all of
the sectors.

-What does this "error 18" mean?
-what is the proper way to load Solaris through GRUB in text form (not in the
nice menu which i can't seem to get)?
-how do i get that nice menu where i can just chose the OS to load? Shouldn't
the computer load to this after installing the second OS (Solaris)? Why am I
not getting this menu (computer loads straight to text editor in GRUB)?
-Only one partition can be active at any given time, right?

Thank you for your time in this matter.
