Solaris 9 was just fine as far as using the USB keyboard and mouse goes, and it was quite reliable using the CDE. The alternative DT was buggy, of course, and I got fed up fixing it. This particular hardware, with a USB keyboard connected, would not run Solaris 10 at all (even the install CD wouldn't boot), and Sun support was very helpful and supportive but reluctant to fix problems on older hardware. The OBP at the time was current. I blew away Solaris 9 because this version of Solaris seems to be rock solid (even better than FC8!) - I just wish I didn't have to have two keyboards on my desk. I guess I'll submit a bug report.
