 Your Ethernet device  is Supposed  to be known.

  /etc/driver_aliases  contains a line:
 
e1000g "pci8086,104d"

check with    /usr/X11/bin/scanpci     that  this is what  Solaris  sees as 
well as linux.



Re ,   disk partitiononing. 

If you install   SXDE   you have no controll over disk partitioning. 
SXDE  uses a new prototype installer which is intended to  lower the 
barrier of entry into Solaris for the novice. 


If you Install   SXCE  instead ( from  the SAME DVD )
  ,  the old installer  will run that asks you a lot of 
detailed  questions  about networking and disk partitioning. 

You can install the developer tools in a separate install after SXCE has 
installed.
