As far as I know, because of law and some copyright stuff etc, there are no codecs as Windows.
Instead go to blastwave.org and download "mplayer". Start it with "gmplayer" and it looks like vlc-player. mplayer can play more formats than vlc-player. For music, you can download via blastwave "xmms" which is a winamp clone. blastwave has much goodie software and is a package installer. Works very good. Also, vlc-player is available via the package system "CBE" but I have never succeeded in getting it to work. The dependencies are quite involved, and you have to compile all software in the right order. There are like 40 packages to compile for vlc-player - or something similar. I wish someone could add it, in the .spec file for vlc-player...
