The last version  of the setup  (your   post 11 )   looks  correct to me. 

   With a working broadband  connection to the ISP  the Solaris  machine 
should now  broadcast  for an IP address on the local  Broadcast domain. 
If there is a Router  between the Solaris server  and the  ISP's network 
the Router  need to  either answer the DHCP  request it self or 
forward the DHCP request to the ISP.  this is usually done with the IP-Helper 
function in Cisco Routers.
