Hello, I've been a Sun UNIX admin for around MANY years, but I'm a relative newbie to OpenSolaris. I'm running Solaris Express Developer Edition 1/08 (snv_79a) and I'd like to be able to transfer data from my Windows box to my new OpenSolaris file server via USB hard disk. (Ethernet is S-L-O-W.)
I've got a 250GB USB hard drive with a FAT32 file system which I've filled up with files from Windows XP. I want to mount this disk on my OpenSolaris server so I can copy all the files off. How do I do this? I plugged in the USB hard drive and this is what I see: # cfgadm -vl Ap_Id Receptacle Occupant Condition Information When Type Busy Phys_Id c0 connected configured unknown unavailable scsi-bus n /devices/[EMAIL PROTECTED],0/pci1166,[EMAIL PROTECTED]/pci1166,[EMAIL PROTECTED]/pci103c,[EMAIL PROTECTED]:scsi usb0/1 empty unconfigured ok unavailable unknown n /devices/[EMAIL PROTECTED],0/pci1166,[EMAIL PROTECTED]:1 usb0/2 empty unconfigured ok unavailable unknown n /devices/[EMAIL PROTECTED],0/pci1166,[EMAIL PROTECTED]:2 usb1/1 empty unconfigured ok unavailable unknown n /devices/[EMAIL PROTECTED],0/pci1166,[EMAIL PROTECTED],1:1 usb1/2 empty unconfigured ok unavailable unknown n /devices/[EMAIL PROTECTED],0/pci1166,[EMAIL PROTECTED],1:2 usb2/1 empty unconfigured ok unavailable unknown n /devices/[EMAIL PROTECTED],0/pci1166,[EMAIL PROTECTED],2:1 usb2/2 empty unconfigured ok unavailable unknown n /devices/[EMAIL PROTECTED],0/pci1166,[EMAIL PROTECTED],2:2 usb2/3 connected configured ok Mfg: <undef> Product: Cypress AT2LP RC42 NConfigs: 1 Config: 0 <no cfg str descr> unavailable usb-storage n /devices/[EMAIL PROTECTED],0/pci1166,[EMAIL PROTECTED],2:3 usb2/4 empty unconfigured ok unavailable unknown n /devices/[EMAIL PROTECTED],0/pci1166,[EMAIL PROTECTED],2:4 So, it looks like the OS sees something at usb2/3, but nothing mounts up automatically. I tried this: #svcadm restart rmvolmgr But still, nothing shows up with a 'df'. I don't know how to translate usb2/3 into a disk device name. I understand there has been a huge amount of change to the USB and volume manager systems between Solaris and OpenSolaris, and I don't know where to start. Is there an OpenSolaris USB mass storage tutorial for newbies? I'm sure that's what I need! ;-) mikebo This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-help mailing list [email protected]
