I've been playing with OpenSolaris, and the 2008.05 announcement
looked like the last real issue I had had been fixed, with everything
running off of ZFS without having to copy everything through a UFS
partition to get there. So I download it, check the checksum, burn a
copy, and start the install process.
And find a different serious issue. Seems like it wants to install
3Gig of stuff, including gnome. I don't want gnome. I don't want most
of X. The previous install on this hardware was well under 2Gig,
including two different postgres installations, as many as four
different versions of python, a couple of different - well, you get
the idea.
So back up and find the toggle I missed to turn off installing X. I
still can't find it. Check the installation instructions - no mention
of any such toggle. Check the release notes - ditto.
So my question is, how do I install 2008.05 without installing a
gigabyte (just a guess) of unwanted desktop cruft?
