I am trying to deploy a solaris 5.11 snv_89 i386 ZFS/CIFS test file server. I
have used various blogs, the Sun Solaris CIFS Administration Guide, and the
opensolaris CIFS service documentation site for help and have finally been able
to deploy a rudimentary server with a Windows share and an NFS share. We have a
multi-platform site with Active Directory domain controllers for Windows
clients and Sun NIS service for our Unix clients. I have used the more simple
"rule-based mapping" idmap config to enable this server to authenticate and
share to either client.

The above simply shows that I have put some effort into this - however, there
is still a lot to do in order to make this service look exactly like our
existing Windows and Unix file servers. I am hoping to find someone who has
actually deployed this in a real-time user environment and might be willing to
share some of their expertise. I have been unable to get any such references
from Sun so far and have been advised to try this site. I am doing this work
for a project in which we hope to deploy one or more SunFire X4500's to provide
transparent file service by/before the end of this year.

thanks, John.
