Try to boot with verbose kernel messages enabled. When you boot from the installation media, at the initial GRUB menu: Type 'e' twice to edit the "kernel$" command line and append options " -kv" at the end of the kernel$ line. RETURN and 'b' boots OpenSolaris 2008.05 from CD. Where does it hang? What are the last few lines printed to the console before it hangs?
