Hi!
Since I can be a tad long-winded, the below text gives the background for, and
asks --
THE QUESTION:
Is it possible to set up a "server" running opensolaris with ZFS as its
file-system and have Windows computers share/access files on the server over a
local area network (wired and wireless).

I just read an article and a pdf-presentation on the file system (and more?!):
ZFS

I'm incredibly impressed by the features and security of the system. I came
across the ZFS stuff while looking for a home-made NAS system.

Basically, I know nothing of Solaris, next to nothing about Linux, but I have
used computers since DOS v.5 something, so the command line does not scare me.

My intent or wish is to create a storage/backup server which runs OpenSolaris
and the ZFS file system and that is attached to my home network.. I'm pretty
sure I could pull that one off... But I do not know if it would then be
possible for my other home-computers (windows XP machines the bunch of them) to
access files (media files mainly) on the server over both wired and wireless
LAN.

Other similar (if you can call them that) solutions I've seen/read about/heard
of, runs SAMBA and some RAID configuration or another. Strictly speaking, I
don't need the power or features of the ZFS system, but like to think of this
as a good project with the added benefit of a safer repository for my files...

If this is possible, does anyone have a link to a detailed
work-log/blog/article which sets up such a system?

Thanks for your time!

Sincerely,
Kjell
