I finally figured out what went wrong with my GRUB.
The opensolaris was first installed on a 40 GB partition freed from the NTFS
for my Windows, so that it occupied the 2nd partition on my disk. Later I
decided to free another partition from the Window NTFS for my 3rd OS (a.k.a
Vista X64) on the same disk. After that the opensolaris partition inevitably
became the 3rd partition of the disk. So most probably the opensolaris's GRUB
was unaware of the change and thus failed to load the kernel............Anyway
I finally took the easy way out and reinstall opensolaris on the 3rd partition.

Thanks all you folks here for the kind advice.
