No dice. I did everything to the "t" but I'm still not able to modify the file. 
I will try to install using zfs_something which I have never done btw_to see if 
this makes a difference. At this point I have to think that this is a bug that 
is hardware specific.
I'll post an update after reinstall...thanks a lot for your help.
