AFAIK, unless someone spends quite a "lot" of time fixing all the deps, it's 
not gonna work right!

Either use SXCE (the classic OpenSolaris Sun distro) or go the OpenSolaris 
route.

As a newbie you'd face a bit more problems with SXCE though. They have (usuall) 
GNU stuff in /usr/gnu, it's just that in OpenSolaris /usr/gnu/bin is in path 
first. So just configure the path and use bash as your shell (default is 
classic sh - from 90's) and you'd be almost as happy (well just almost sans 
everything shiney).
