couldn't find a http server in my (complete) Solaris installation (is this
really true???), so I installed apache from blastwave, as well. Still no luck,
same message - the web server does respond on http://localhost, but the port
seems to be unknown.
Any idea what I am missing?

Hi Oliver,
I haven't seen any issues with the CUPS packages in the
OpenSolaris.org repositories. It might be worth giving them a try.
