I have tried to install OpenSolaris 2009.06 in VirtualBox 3.0.4 running under Windows. I am trying to get a working copy of OpenSolaris so that I can play with it and understand it before making that my platform of choice. So far I am not having much success. I have installed OpenSolaris a couple of times. Both times I have gotten some disk errors, but I don’t know where to find that log so that I can let someone know exactly what the errors are. They are not in the VirtualBox log nor in the OpenSolaris /var/adm/messages file.
The first time through it stopped coming up at the ‘opensolaris console login:’ and just froze there. I couldn’t sign on there or anything. The second time through I got the disk errors, but it did get to the GNOME? login screen. I did signon and look at some things. There was an error in the install.log file (don’t know if it was in there the first time through): <GUI: Gtk_E Sep 6 05:19:31> file gtklabel.c: line 1677: assertion ‘GTK_IS_LABEL (label)’ failed <GUI: Gtk_E Sep 6 05:19:31> file gtkwidget.c: line 5285: assertion ‘GTK_WIDGET_CAN_DEFAULT (widget)’ failed Don’t know what these errors are and if they are important. Now when I try to boot I get to a point where there is a message on the screen saying: WARNING: cpu0: failed to update microcode from version 0x0 to 0x60b I then get the SunOS Release message and it gets down to the ‘opensolaris console login:’ prompt and goes no further. I don’t get the GNOME login screen. I think I logged in at this point at one time, but can’t login now. I don’t know what to do to go further. Thanks for any help that you can give me. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-help mailing list [email protected]
