Those instructions are not for OpenSolaris - they're for Solaris 10,
which has a completely different packaging & installation system,
among many many many other changes.

Just boot the LiveCD without doing any grub hackery and it should
auto-start the GUI.   There is no text-mode installer in the current
LiveCD's (it's under development for the next release).

http://dlc.sun.com/osol/docs/content/dev/getstart/tsboot.html has
instructions for starting ssh & doing a remote GUI install.
