Bump on this.

I just spent the last few days pulling my hair out wondering why this doesn't
work.

My setup/Opensolaris version used:

OS: OpenSolaris 2009/06 (64bit mode)
VBOX: 3.0.8 r53138
HW: Opteron system / 16GB ram, IDE DVD/CD drive

First kind of issue I have are the permission denied errors. This is apparently
due to conflicts with the volume manager. Once I got that sorted out, I either
simply can't attach the hardware drive or when I do, I get one of the following
two kinds of errors:

- on 32bit guests, I'm seeing errors in communicating with the drive,
regardless of whether pass through is enabled or not. (in some cases, it thinks
it's ext4 fs, but mainly it's corrupted)
- on 64bit guests, I'm not seeing the errors in communication, but I simply
can't access the drive, even though it shows up and connects up okay according
to vbx.

Has anyone gotten an external USB-dvd/cd drive to work?

I just tried it on Mac OSX and it appears to work there, though Vbox has other
issues in that environment.

Looks like this issue has been ongoing for quite a while now. Any news on
anyone being able to get this to work or at least indicate why it doesn't work?
