I installed 2009.06 on my T43 back in July. The system has a single core
pentium, 1.6 or 1.8GHz IIRC, and 1.5GB of RAM.

OpenSolaris is annoying slow on this thing. There is often a delay in
everything I do, even typing this message. As I am writing this, the text
occasionally pauses/lags behind my typing. ALT-TABing windows is slow, moving
windows is slow.

Maybe slow is the wrong way to describe it. Laggy is better. Watching the CPU
metre, it often jumps to 100% when doing simple things. Something like opening
my home folder via Places->Home Folder takes about 3-5 seconds.

I am working on getting OpenSolaris on all my systems at home (in the process
of building a Big Freakin ZFS File Server - BFZFS to replace my smaller Solaris
10 based file server), but I am leaning towards a *BSD or Linux distro for this
laptop if OpenSolaris is going to be this laggy for me. Any tips on what might
be going on, and how I might fix this guy up, are greatly appreciated. Maybe
this is a job for dtrace.

Even initiating key repeat has a lag. Hold down any key on my keyboard (a
character key, or delete or backspace or directional keys) has a long lag
before key repeat kicks in. The lag is not because it is configured that way.

Thanks!

Mark
