Hmm, when I connect an old USB HP Deskjet 920 to a fresh SX:CE
install, a gnome print configuration dialog pops up, and within
seconds a printer queue it automatically configured and ready
for printing.

IIRC, the solaris "usbprn" usb printer kernel module doesn't
support all possible usb printer class devices; there is support
for unidirectional and bi-directional interface, but not the
"1284.4 compatible bi-directional interface".

is reported as usbif,class7.1.1 or usbif,class7.1.2 device
(uni- and bi-directional interface).
usbif,class7.1.3 ("1284.4") might be problematic.
