You write:
In the "General" Tab, set it to:
"When the power button is pressed: Shutdown"
But I dont have any option "Shutdown". There is only one option, and it says "Ask
me". So how can I allow my girlfriend to shutdown the computer?
Try to start the application with root privileges.
$ pfexec /usr/bin/gnome-power-preferences
It may also have something to do with I believe ACPI and communication
to the computer bios.
If all fails, do what I use to do.
Right-Click in the panel area and select "Add to Panel"
Double-Click on "Create Custom Launcher"
Add the entry "pfexec /usr/sbin/init 5"
Select the Icon of your choice, I used
/usr/share/icons/blueprint/48x48/apps/gnome-shutdown.png. You may not
have this as I copied these icons over from an SXCE install.

pfexec /usr/sbin/init 5
