I am trying to load OpenSolaris using the 2009.06 - Live CD. I am using
the Sun Microsystem produced cdrom. I have several copies that I have
tried but I get the same results. I have downloaded, read and followed
the installation instructions. Particularly the "Tips on Troubleshooting
an OpenSolaris Startup", which describe the procedures to follow if the
Live CD boots the system in the console mode.
After setting up a second networked system and starting the boot process
described in the installation guide and run the GUI installer, I get the
following error messages displayed on the remote system:
j...@opensolaris:~# cd /bin
j...@opensolaris:/bin# ./gui-install
Xlib: extension "RANDR" missing on display "localhost:10.1".
Xlib: extension "RANDR" missing on display "localhost:10.1".
Xlib: extension "RANDR" missing on display "localhost:10.1".
The program 'gui-install' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadIDChoice (invalid resource ID chosen for this
connection)'.
(Details: serial 506 error_code 14 request_code 131 minor_code 5)
(Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
j...@opensolaris:/bin#
I have checked assorted FAQs and this problem seems to be an X lib
problem related to remote displays. The problem has been noted, but I
am unable to find a fix I can use. After the error message finishes the
Xwindow shuts down. Is there some way I can get around this problem?
I would appreciate any help you can give.
Thanks,
Kenn
