With release you don't have updates for newer versions and security updates too
until you buy subscription from Sun. This is good for companies. As normal user
or developer you have those updates ("versions" and security) for free in dev
versions which are available every 2 weeks (maye time schedule will change for
shorter period in future).
It's very safe thanks to Booting environments (BE) and ZFS snapshots. So after
update you will have new BE as default in your boot menu. But in case of any
problem you can boot your older BE and set it again as default so very safe.
