Well, no rush on this. I decided to run the updates and left Solaris updating. After making user and group changes I typed init 6 ... now the system goes to grub and won't start. if there were update notes for the reboot, I missed them and now I'm facing a fresh re-install.
Excuse me if I find a nice brick wall and bash my head against it.
