My assumption about this problem is that it is somehow related to whatever 
SuperMicro did to shoehorn (2) 82574L NICs into this system.  The 3420 chipset 
was designed to have an 82578DM directly in the PCH and an 82574L attached by 
an x1 PCI-E lane.
