I didn't actually check the keyboard layout.  This could explain why using the 
password then failed while ssh'd in from a remote terminal. I couldn't get in.

I had to toast the installation and re-install. Well, it is re-installing now 
... I'm waiting for it to finish installing again.

Obviously, if my keyboard was matched wrongly on the install, it is no wonder 
my high-security  password wouldn't work - the characters would have been all 
wrong.

It may have saved space, but I fear this could cause more problems. Indeed, 
looks like this has caused me a problem already.

You know what ... thinking about this ... I'm just going to turn the server off 
and go have a drink. Headaches like this, I can do without.
