Are the home directories located over the network ? Please send the results of: time groupadd time useradd time useradd -d /somewhere -m uptime ps -ef | wc -l And the specs of your machine. Adding users is rarely a intensive operation so something must be using the resources, please provide more information about how the machine is being used. -- Giovanni
