in the americas, I picked up a pair of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815124020 they're cheap, sufficient for a home fileserver, and a duece of those will set you back less than the one SAS card would. only downsides are: 1) you need a USB key to flash them to the proper firmware (takes liek 5 minutes, only have to do it once)
2) they're sata I, not sata II or SAS.
aside from those two observations, I've never had any issues with them.
