I have openSolaris 2009.06 on a X86 machine(p-4 2.8). on completion of the
installation i lanuched the browser but its unable to resolve ANY domain. it
can ping ips or go to websites via ip but is unable to resolve any domain.
i am aware of the solution to edit nsswitch.conf and add dns to hosts but to do
that i have to login as a root/admin user. opensolaris installer didnt give me
an option to add an admin user or to make my user admin.
so i have two problems. i am unable to login as root and i am unable to resolve
domains.
root login issue: i get the error that roles should be assigned before logging
into admin and the messae that the system admin has disabled access to this
system temporarily. i know the solution for this too, but editing pam.conf is
not possible without logging in as an admin. i am going in circles here :(
the only other way i know is to do a pfexec su - which i am going to try today.
any ideas/inputs?
