I haven't changed any mail-related configuration, but the mail command hangs
whenever I try to send mail:

$ mail -s "bla" al...@localhost
<hang>

Ctrl+C leaves behind a dead.letter in my home directory.

/var/log/syslog shows some repeating messages from sendmail, not always in this
same order:

Apr 27 18:07:25 sol sendmail[566]: [ID 702911 mail.warning]
gethostbyaddr(192.168.56.1) failed: 2
Apr 27 18:07:25 sol sendmail[574]: [ID 702911 mail.info] starting daemon
(8.14.4+Sun): smtp+queue...@00:15:00
Apr 27 18:07:25 sol sendmail[576]: [ID 702911 mail.info] starting daemon
(8.14.4+Sun): queue...@00:15:00

The IP of the sendmail host is 10.2.4.10. I don't know what 192.168.56.1 is.

Sendmail frankly scares me and I would like to avoid digging into the config
files for the sake of my own mental health. Really I just need the mail command
to work locally. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Alex
