This is not a mailman thing.  This is a gmail thing.  If you search gmail
help, you'll find that gmail doesn't show messages it receives, which are
apparently from you.  They figure if you've got it in your sent items,
that's good enough.

Oddly enough, in *some* cases, gmail will deliver messages to your inbox
that you send yourself.  So don't send yourself a message, receive it, and
assume I'm wrong about this.  I don't know what the conditions are that make
gmail choose to deliver or not deliver a message into your inbox that you
sent yourself, but I know it's the way it is.

I had to explore this issue at work, where we use google apps.  And that is
the way gmail works.  It's unpredictable, and the documentation is often
wrong or contradictory or missing.
