Another method, for single-click on icons is > system > preferences > file management then click on the 'Behavior' tab and select 'single click to open items' instead of the default double click. I forget if 'always open in browser windows' is selected by default or not, (it's on the same section) but if it's not I always select that too. Otherwise you get a new window whenever you open a folder.

Being new to OS, I apologise if the following question has been asked before.
Is it possible to customise the desktop so that icons can be clicked once to
open folders/start apps?

Also, is there a way of changing the mouse pointer to appear slightly larger on
screen?

Thanks in advance.

OK, I found a setting that included "click-policy.

Open application "/usr/bin/gconf-editor"

Follow

apps > nautilus > preferences > click policy

double click on the term "click policy" and enter the word "single"
