Transmission also has remote access GUI (apart from Web administration), that run on local machine and communicate to transmission server ;) (I got It on an Linux/Ubuntu box from getdeb.net ) but maybe it could be compiled and run on machine you would be using overseas, too. Besides web administration (with port redirection through ssh, I suppose), ssh, wget and transmission-remote, that might be most comfortable way.
