after 3 hours of trying to load the previous stable BE it spat out a message on a black screen about the ID of the problem and recommended running fdump. I copied the important parts of it by hand! logged in text mode. unable to find fdump anywhere. loaded PATH and everything from .bashrc and still no luck. let me know if you are interested in the error message.
also, should I try to reinstall and is there anything I need to do to prevent the out-of-space :-) problem? I think that there was no need to assign space to /var and /swap explicitly under zfs. I have lots of space given to opensolaris. Thanks a lot for answering. This is the second time I risk losing my data in osol.
