前幾天 illumOS 的主持人Garrett D'Amore對 illumOS project 給了一個status report，他的slides如下： http://www.uuasc.org/big/illumos-la-jan11.pdf 其中有一張slide特別要注意的是： ● OpenSolaris is dead ● Oracle open source commitment ● Oracle priorities ● Uncertainty about Solaris future ● New opportunities ● New innovation 另外一張slide則指出 illumOS 非常需要大家的支持 Getting Involved ● Lots of opportunities to help! ● Coding ● Testing ● Documentation ● Localization ● SysAdmin ● Marketing Oracle 對 illumOS 的態度則是完全置之不理 （難怪Garrett D'Amore 要Oracle去“Fork off!”）我個人對illumOS 及OpenIndiana 短期內並不看好（長期當然是另外一回事）目前主要的重點還是在Solaris 11 Express上，但如果有大大想在早期即加入這個project，現在可能是一個很好的機會。 另一個超大型Sun的open source project目前因爲Oracle態度改變而也被fork出去則是openoffice.org。 我想大家都知道，分出來的新project 叫做 LibreOffice，背後支持的組織叫Open Document Foundation (ODF)。它的情形跟illumOS則有很大不同。LibreOffice因爲有Ubuntu (!) 和RedHat/Fedora 在支持，以後一定會變成主流。 我們自己已經把openoffice.org全部換成LibreOffice了。目前LibreOffice和openoffice.org幾乎完全相同，但從version 3.3以後，因爲LibreOffice更新的速度會比openoffice.org快很多，兩個projects一定會開始diverge。屆時大家就必須做一個選擇了。 LibreOffice沒有Solaris port.
