AFAIK, no traditional Sun audio device (aka SADA) supports more than two channels, so that will never have back channel volume control. The new thing seems to be "Boomer", a Solaris-specific fork (due to additional requirements) of OSS 4.x. See http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/arc/caselog/2008/318/inception-materials/boomer.pdf for a description of what that should be like, and http://www.opensolaris.org/os/project/opensound/ for the project page. I don't know when it will actually be available. As to things not working well with anything available _now_, you're not alone. For example, I've had no luck getting decent audio under VirtualBox - best so far is Juergen's audioi810, although it's too fast; next best, the existing audio810 driver, and worst at the moment, OSS. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
