Record-what-you-hear is a very important feature for desktop video capture and 
recording VoIP calls, TTS or capturing audio from apps like Flash or Real that 
do not allow you to take their proprietary format and export it.

You can implement record-what-you-hear as a universal feature in the boomer 
audio core and not just an AC97 feature as we do it with the Virtual mixer 
engine in OSS. 

My vote is for leaving the current implementation alone.
