It's only different in that you can't accidentally hit escape and lose the chat bar, which was a problem in 1.x. For people who keep the chat bar always visible and use the arrow keys to move this is the exact same scenario. The single letter hot keys ARE always disabled and NEVER used. This WAS AN OPTION in 1.x. This option has been REMOVED in 2.x.
