Practical? No.

Given the amount of text in the UI and the flexibility of the UI to scale
text, render text with different colors, wrap text messages, and (of course)
the need to handle strings that aren't built into the viewer - localized
strings provided by server messages, text chat, etc - the work involved
would be much larger than integrating a new text engine. The ongoing
maintenance costs would be tremendous. Any any hack suggested to reduce the
cost turns it either into a non-general solution (i.e. something we wouldn't
want to ship/maintain) or approaches the general solution (e.g. render
composed strings into images on the fly... by integrating a new text engine)
