AFAIK, the OpenSSL library is only a C library, and it's not limited to
any OS/hardware... I don't think there's a port to Java for now, maybe in
the near future?

I use Win95/98, and compiling OpenSSL is really easy.
I also use DJGPP under Win95, and I managed to compile SSLeay 0.9.0b for
work under DOS, of course with no sockets, but all the crypto stuff is
here, and it compiles well.
What is "Open" is mostly the source code.
Anyway, the fact that SSLeay became OpenSSL is a very good thing, as more
and more people will contribute to it, and maybe sometime someone will
have the need to port the whole stuff to Java, or any other language.
