There are two different issues I would like to address. One feature and
one more bug-like. They apply to openssl-0.9.3a. Is this supposed to be
a stable release?

The first is that on my system I'm having perl (v.5) installed in
/store/bin, but _not_ included in PATH. If I included it then everything
would be tried built with a broken compiler. I discovered that it was
possible to set the enviroment variable PERL and then ./config would use
that instead of trying to search for perl.

This only functioned in ./config and not ./Configure. Therefore I
patched ./Configure with the attaced patch and everything seemed to be
fine. I would suggest to incorporate this patch into the distribution.

The other one is that after it has compiled for quite some time and are
ready to build the openssl-binary it terminates with the following
output (after a ./config no-asm; make clean; make ):

        cc -o openssl -DMONOLITH -I../include -DTHREADS -D_REENTRANT
-DB_ENDIAN -DBN_DIV2W -Ae +ESlit +O4 -z openssl.o verify.o asn1pars.o
req.o dgst.o dh.o enc.o gendh.o errstr.o ca.o pkcs7.o crl2p7.o crl.o
rsa.o dsa.o dsaparam.o x509.o genrsa.o gendsa.o s_server.o s_client.o
speed.o s_time.o apps.o s_cb.o s_socket.o version.o sess_id.o
ciphers.o nseq.o pkcs12.o -L. -L.. -L../.. -L../../.. -L.. -lssl -L..
-lcrypto
/usr/ccs/bin/ld: (Warning) At least one PA 2.0 object file (openssl.o)
was detected. The linked output may not run on a PA 1.x system.

The error comes after it's been trying to do the linking for some
minutes. I've tried with both default configuration, no-threads and
no-asm.

I've compiled lots of other stuff, so I'm pretty sure that my compiler
isn't broken. Albeit I'm running on a system which hasn't been patched
since installation, so it _might_ be (though unlikely) an error in the
compiler.

My question to you is if you've encountered a similar problem earlier
on, and if you do have any solution to it?

Regarding the warning given it's said not to do any harm as long as I
don't try to run the binary on a PA 1.x system...

Even Holen
