There is a spirited discussion going on openssl-users re: using audio
for the RNG. I developed an audio-based RNG for the O'Reilly WebSite
Pro project several years ago. Since O'Reilly is a supporter of
OpenSource, I inquired and received permission to release the audio
RNG code to the OpenSSL project, to be placed under the OpenSource
license.
This is Win32-only code, and will run on 95/98 and NT. It is what it
is, but it does work and has been tested reasonably well. It takes
about 100 millisec. to get 8Kbits of whitened entropy (assuming very
vanilla 22KHz monaural sound board). Maybe this is too slow for the
needs of this group. But I'm happy to donate it. All I ask is that any
improvements be fed back to me for possible inclusion in future
versions of WebSite Pro.
As we are readying WebSite Pro 2.4 for release, and it contains a
major update to the cryptography, SSL, PKI and has TLS added, I am in
no position to take on the modification and integration work needed to
make this a part of OpenSSL. Plus, I am not familiar with the source
control system that you use on this project. I'll be happy to guide
someone in that effort though.
If this is interesting, please contact me directly by email and we can
make the arrangements to release it.
