I had problems building 0.9.4 or the snapshots on systems with
gcc-2.7.2 and glibc 2.1. (It worked with glibc 2.0).
I was successful building OpenSSL against glibc 2.1 when I installed
the egcs package of my S.u.S.E. 6.3 installation.
gcc version egcs-2.91.66 19990314/Linux (egcs-1.1.2 release)
Well, I have no idea of the exact reasons but maybe it helps...
