Which version of AIX are we talking about here?

In any case, I've privately received similar complaints.  The best
proposal so far is to replace the name Malloc, Realloc and Free with
something more evident, like OPENSSL_MALLOC, OPENSSL_REALLOC and
OPENSSL_FREE, thought I'm not completely sure I want to see it upcased
(that's a matter of taste and religion).

That's what is used underneath.  Thing is that CRYPTO_free() and
friends require two extra argument that are usually given __FILE__ and
__LINE__.  The sole reason Free() and friends exist is to simplify
that part.
