OpenSSL's crypto libraries would allow a pilot to perform tasks
performed by cryptographic smartcards. For example, Matt Blaze has
proposed an interesting method for using a key stored in a
cryptographic smartcard to de/en-crypt a larger quantity of data than
the serial connection to the smartcard could handle without revealing
the key in the smart card.
