thanks for looking into this. I only have one sol 2.6 box and I
cannot tell if my box is corrupt. I was starting to get desperate.

I make a soft link to the real location of the openssl libraries.
The make file refers to the 'openssl' in the base directory.

I have included a README.PROBLEMS in the source tree to 
explain my problem. If you need any further clarification please
feel free to contact me.
