Shared debugging OpenSSL libraries on SunOS 5.8

I have a problem in that the test programs dies if if build a shared
version of openssl-0.9.6 (with debugging) on SunOS 5.8 (aka Solaris 8).
Is this a known (and fixed?) problem, or should I look further into it?
