I'd like to make an alternate suggestion -- that you instead *replace* the RSAref 
glue code with the BSAFE glue code (either the LymeWare or Bixby patches).  There 
are still valid reasons for using the BSAFE API with OpenSsl.  (One example would 
be interfacing with an IBM S/390 mainframe's hardware crypto, which exposes a 
BSAFE API.)

Having the BSAFE patches in the official code base would be a *wonderful* thing, 
saving those of us who use it from repatching each new release.
