Something to know: it appears that the reason my test program gets
different results is that I basically only do a BN_mul(), and
therefore have a pretty clean stack (0's everywhere) and BN_CTX, while
bntest does a lot of stuff, and the values in some temporary variables
aren't that clean, and some of it gets into the calculations.
