Wrong way around. bc is a front end for dc. bc -c shows you what is sent to dc. I think that the problem may be to do with lines being truncated when sent from bc to dc, but I haven't checked this in detail. Certainly I would assume that dc was more reliable on 'traditional' unix systems than bc. Whether this is the case with the GNU equivalents I am not sure.
