My activities today may have puzzled a few people (Ulf Mller reacted
to some of my commits :-)).

The story begins a while ago, when we received a rather large patch
from Compaq, which contained more or less all their modifications they
did to be able to create their 'Compaq SSL for VMS' product.

The majority of those changes involved support for 64-bit pointers and
the whole building complexity around those and the mix of 64- and
32-bit pointers. Some of those changes were unfortunately rather
intrusive and made it impossible for me to commit the changes as they
were, since building on any VMS system wouldn't have worked.

So, I finally decided to make a branch and do the development there.
Any interested party is welcome to share and try it out. The changes
may work and may not. They work on my system last I tested. For
those using rsync and cvs on a repository copy, the branch tag is
BRANCH_VMS_64BIT. For all others, you will have to wait until I've
started producing snapshots of that branch (I'll do that tomorrow
evening).
